A British soldier was killed in a firefight in Afghanistan, the Defence Ministry on Monday.
The soldier was one of the 101 Engineer Regiment, a bomb disposal unit.
His family was informed of his death and begged him not to get more information on this release for 24 hours, the ministry said.
The soldier is the 309th British fatality in Afghanistan since at least October 2001, when NATO troops invaded to overthrow the rule of the Taliban.
June was especially deadly for the coalition troops in Afghanistan with less than 96 deaths, according to records CNN.
The UK has the fight against the second largest contingent of foreign troops in Afghanistan against the insurgents, to the United States.
